THE INCREDIBLES TWO WORTH WATCHING

BY VANESSA SALEEM

The Incredibles are back, and audiences have waited fourteen years to see the stunning animation! The action-packed beginning provides a transition that was worth the wait. The audience is reintroduced to the original cast and the rules of their world while the Incredibles fight the Underminer. Eventually, they stop the Underminer, but with much damage to the metropolis. They are also breaking the law due to the ban on superheroes.

Winston Deavor, a wealthy businessman voiced by Bob Odenkirk, plays a pivotal role in the movie. He believes that the criminalization of superheroes led to his father’s death and is determined to change that. Teaming up with his sister Evelyn, voiced by Catherine Keener, they devise a plan to make heroes super again. Their innovative idea is to put a body camera on a superhero, allowing the world to witness the benefits of having superheroes. This concept, similar to police officers’ use of bodycams, brings the audience closer to the action and allows them to experience heroism firsthand.

Incredibles 2 introduces a new and intriguing villain-Screenslaver. She personifies society’s addiction to computer screens and often reveals her agenda through thought-provoking monologues in the film. In one such monologue, she points out that we are trading real experiences for simulation. This aspect of the movie provides adult viewers with engaging dialogue while the extraordinary animation and comedy keep the rest of the family entertained.

As Elastigirl works to make heroes legal again, Mr. Incredible takes on the challenge of parenthood. The director, Brad Bird, brilliantly highlights the difficulties of raising children by depicting three children at different phases of their youth. Violet is a teenager dealing with relationship drama and trying to find herself. Dash is at an age where life is good, and the hardest thing to focus on is doing your homework. Jack-Jack is just a baby, but he has a multitude of superpowers to deal with. Bird emphasizes the value of family just as he does in The Incredibles.

Overall, The Incredibles 2 has exceeded fans’ expectations over the last fourteen years. It is a must-see movie for all. However, it’s highly recommended that those new to The Incredibles franchise watch the film in order.
